An Introduction

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS

With the apparent election of Donald Trump to the presidency in the 2024 presidential election, it is time to prepare for contingencies. That man has proposed many horrifying actions throughout his campaign. If he follows through with even a few of these actions the country and its people will face a number of needlessly exciting calamities.

It is appropriate to be prepared now. The main question is how to do so.

Rationale

THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS

It is not a good thing to comply with the demands of an authoritarian dictator. We are promised oppression by the incoming Trump-Vance administration. As long as there are means to use technology of all sorts to cope with the situation we might endure. This doesn't mean that we necessarily need to create new technologies necessarily. Using older tactics, techniques, and procedures in new ways may be just as effective.

The main question is how to apply those tactics, techniques, and procedures. Preparing for a more offline world that is rooted more in store-and-forward paradigms may become necessary. Whipping out 56k modems to pass highly compressed data point to point may get past blockades of the Internet, for example. Radio data transmissions such as those done by the Shortwave Radiogram program will also help bridge gaps. Effectively wielding these tools will be an important measure in 2025 and following.

Making our way through this massive change will not necessarily be simple. Preparation will be key to survival, though.

Radio

Introduction

The importance of radio cannot be downplayed. As a communications medium it can go where the Internet cannot. With censorious intentions being uttered and tools existing such as Section 606 of Title 47 of the United States Code, it is quite possible that communications can be legally curtailed.

Communications within the United States are likely to be impaired if Trump gets sufficiently upset at something. There are ways to work around this, though. It simply involves relying on foreign radio outlets.

Possible Radio Targets

In no particular order:

  • WWV
  • Radio France International

Receiving Methods

Tactics, Techniques, & Procedures

Networking

Although it may seem like Trump Would easily use legal authority to degrade network capacity he doesn't have to. All he needs to do is call his buddy Elon Musk as well as other oligarchs in the tech sector. They could restrict things in short order without official government action.

Other Items

Survival

Setting up "go bag" kits of hardware may become appropriate. Fixed locations may not necessarily be the most defensible.

Statutory Authorities

47 USC 606 states of November 9, 2024:

L. 98–549, § 6(a), Oct. 30, 1984, 98 Stat. 2804.)

Well, "the continuance of a war in which the United States is engaged" can refer to many things like the still legally ongoing Korean War as well as operations in the Middle East under the Authorization for Use of Military Force. This is likely triggered under many possible conditions. It is a very outdated statute, though.
